1. Deborah Garlick’s Final Image
On December 26, 2004, a devastating tsunami struck Asia, claiming approximately 230,000 lives. Among the victims was Deborah Garlick. The last image found on her camera shows her enjoying a serene moment before the catastrophe struck.
2. Tragic Selfie of Three Friends
In October 2011, Essa Ricker, Kelsea Webster, and Savannah Webster took a selfie with a train in the background. Moments later, they were struck and killed by the very train seen in the photo.
3. Metrojet Flight 9268
In 2015, Olga Sheina posted a photo of her husband and child on the steps of Metrojet Flight 9268 with the caption, “We’re going home.” Tragically, a bomb exploded on the plane shortly after takeoff, killing everyone on board.
4. Selfie at the Bataclan
Gilles Leclerc and Marianne Labanane took a selfie at the Bataclan concert hall in Paris in 2015. Shortly after, they were caught in a terrorist attack by four ISIS gunmen. Gilles did not survive, but Marianne did.
5. Heather Price Papayoti at Hoover Dam
On January 16, 2014, Heather Price Papayoti was photographed looking over the Hoover Dam bypass bridge. Moments later, she tragically took her own life by climbing over the railing and jumping.
6. Omagh Bombing Photo
A photo taken moments before the Omagh bombing shows a red car loaded with explosives that detonated, killing 29 people and injuring 220 others. The man and child in the image survived, but the photographer did not.
7. Collette Moreno’s Bachelorette Selfie
Collette Moreno and her friend Ashley Theobald took a selfie on their way to Collette’s bachelorette party. Just eight minutes later, they were involved in a fatal accident. Collette passed away five weeks before her wedding.
8. Gary Slok on MH17
Gary Slok took a selfie with his mother as they were about to depart from Amsterdam on Malaysian Airlines Flight MH17 in June 2014. The flight was shot down over Ukraine, killing all 298 passengers on board.
9. Colleen Burns at the Grand Canyon
In 2016, Colleen Burns posted a photo on Instagram shortly before she tragically fell 400 feet to her death at the Grand Canyon while moving aside on a trail to let another hiker pass.
10. Andrew McAuley’s Last Known Image
Andrew McAuley captured a photo while attempting to kayak the Tasman Sea in 2007. This image is his last known as he vanished after taking it, never to be found.
