20-Year-Old Fort Hood Soldier Ana Basalduaruiz Found Dead, Army Suspects No Foul Play

The Department of the Army Criminal Investigation confirmed they suspect no foul play in the death of 20-year-old Ana Basalduaruiz in Fort Hood, Texas, according to ABC News.

Basalduaruiz was found dead on March 13th after reportedly telling her mother, Alejandra Ruiz Zarco, that she got sexually assaulted by someone with a higher rank last month. Alejandra Ruiz Zarco also revealed that her daughter got harassed by others while serving in the Army. She said her daughter told her that “everyone wants me to sleep with them” but they were creepy repulsive individuals.

The Army will continue to conduct a thorough investigation into the death of Ana Basalduaruiz. They are gathering all evidence and facts to ensure they discover what transpired.

“A loss of any one of our Soldiers is a tragedy, and it is no different in the death of Private Ana Basalduaruiz. Our hearts and thoughts go out to the family, friends, and colleagues of Ana,” said Col. Christopher Dempsey, commander of, the 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division. “We have remained in constant contact with both parents of Private Basalduaruiz and will continue to keep them updated.”

The Army claims they are in contact with her family to keep them updated and provide them with all releasable information. The chain of command also provides support and resources to her family and the Troopers that served with her.

Basalduaruiz was a part of the 1st Cavalry Division. She served as a combat engineer for the division for the past 15 months. She’s from Long Beach, California, entered the Army in July 2021, and got assigned to the 91st Engineer Battalion, 1st ABCT, 1st Cav—the division in December 2021.

Fort Hood is the same military base in Texas, where Vanesa Guillen was abused and killed in April 2020.
