4 BLACK ACTRESSES TO WATCH OUT FOR IN 2023

Since 2023 has arrived, we must let you know about some phenomenal young actresses that will appear on your TV screens this year. From biopics to hunting Abraham Lincoln to young superheroes being tested to a Disney princess, take a look at four black actresses on Where Is The Buzz’s radar for this year!

Ryan Destiny

Ryan Destiny will portray Claressa “T-Rex” Shields in “Flint Strong,” which is Rachel Morrison in her directorial debut. Judy Greer and Brian Tyree Henry will star alongside Destiny. The film wrapped production last summer and is expected to debut in 2023. The date is still kept under wraps but there is footage of Destiny working on pads to prepare for her role that has surfaced online.

She will also star in a horror film titled “Oracle” with Heather Graham that will be executive-produced by Will Packer. The film is slated to release in 2023, according to IMDB.

Lovie Simone

Lovie Simone will be staring in the upcoming Apple TV series “Manhunt,” which follows Edwin Stanton’s search for John Wilkes Booth after the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, basing the story on James L. Swanson’s novel Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase for Lincoln’s Killer.

The 24-year-old actress will portray Mary Simms, who’s a former slave of the doctor who treated assassin John Wilkes Booth’s injury and gave him safe harbor after his crime.

Simone can also be seen next in “57 Seconds” starring Josh Hutcherson and Morgan Freeman. Her role has been kept under wraps and the film currently doesn’t have a release date but it’s expected to release in 2023 under the Highland Film Group.

Jaz Sinclair has booked the best role of her career since Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. She will be the face of “Gen V” an upcoming superhero television series by Prime Video, developed by Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters, serving as a spin-off of The Boys by Eric Kripke, and based on The Boys comic book story arc “We Gotta Go Now” by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson.

Prime Video released the first look of the series on December 3, 2022. Sinclair will reunite with Chilling Adventures of Sabrina co-star Chance Perdomo. Lizze Broadway, Shelley Conn, Maddie Phillips, London Thor, Derek Luh, Asa Germann, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Sean Patrick Thomas, Marco Pigossi, Clancy Brown, Alexander Calvert, and Jason Ritter will also star alongside Sinclair. Jessie T. Usher, Colby Minifie, and P.J.Byrne will make special appearances in the series by reprising their roles from The Boys.

Halle Bailey is looking toward her first possible billion-dollar box office film when she will portray Ariel in “The Little Mermaid” from visionary filmmaker Rob Marshall’s live-action reimagining of the studio’s Oscar®-winning animated musical classic, which hits theaters globally on May 26th. The teaser trailer has over 26 million views on YouTube.
