Samara Weaving is giving Marvel fans an early taste of Emma Frost’s cool confidence, at least in their eyes.

The Australian actress posted new hotel snaps and a video that showed off her loose blonde waves, visible tattoos, and laid-back energy as she moved around the room. The Instagram post also included mirror selfies of Weaving posing.

Fans quickly identified her look as a daring mix of lace and sharp tailoring, as the telepathic mutant she’ll be playing in Marvel Studios’ upcoming X-Men movie. Many fans commented on how it fit her character.

The comments rolled in, with one fan saying, “SAMARA WEAVING?! OH MY GOD.”

Marvel Studios revealed Weaving would be playing Emma Frost on August 14 at Disney’s D23 fan event in Anaheim, California, where the studio also announced a May 5, 2028, release date for the film. Deadline reported the casting on July 31, saying director Jake Schreier and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige selected Weaving after an extensive search that included screen tests soon after July 4.

Schreier, who directed 2025’s Thunderbolts, directs an ensemble that also includes Kit Connor as Cyclops, Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Christopher Abbott as Professor Xavier, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, and Maya Boyd as Storm. Adam Driver will play the villain Mr. Sinister. Feige told the D23 audience that the list isn’t yet complete.

Emma Frost first appeared in The Uncanny X-Men No. 129 in 1980 as the White Queen of the Hellfire Club. She later switched sides, joined the X-Men, and ultimately helped lead the team. She is a powerful telepath who can transform her body into organic diamond. January Jones played her in 2011’s X-Men: First Class.

Weaving has embraced her role on social media. Days after the D23 announcement, she posted a photo of herself sunbathing with a stack of Emma Frost comics, captioned, “Don’t read into it.” Fans have also dug up photos from October 2024 of her dressed all in white, the character’s signature color, long before Marvel came calling.

It’s not just about her X-Men role; fans have also focused on Ready or Not 2: Here I Come, her horror-comedy sequel from Searchlight Pictures, released March 20. She plays Grace again, having survived the deadly game in the 2019 original. Grace and her sister Faith, played by Kathryn Newton, must outrun four rival families in a race to the powerful throne.

Directed by the duo Radio Silence, the film also stars Sarah Michelle Gellar, Elijah Wood, and David Cronenberg. It opened at number four at the U.S. box office with $9.1 million, against a reported $14 million budget.

Weaving, 34, had a busy year in 2026, starring in Over Your Dead Body and Carolina Caroline. Among other roles, Weaving has starred in The Babysitter, Scream VI, and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
