Pop girl group Moody Joody has released its first-ever album, Plain Jane, under Photo Finish Records after years of writing, evolving, and finding themselves.

The group has picked up momentum over the past year via several singles including Average Joe, Fantasyland, Suburbia, Little Blue House, Loretta’s Last Call, and Oops! The tracks show how much the band has evolved and explore identity, womanhood, love, and the strength to do things their own way.

The band comprises Kaitie Forbes and Kayla Hall on lead vocals, along with Andrew Pacheco handling all the instrumentation and production. According to them, the album marks a very personal creative journey.

“‘Plain Jane’ was born from a place of longing to take up space, unapologetically and boldly, as a woman in the world,” Hall said. “It’s about showing up in full, authentic expression with reckless abandon, even if it means you have to burn it all down to the ground to get there.”

“This album reflects that journey of what womanhood has meant to me, realizing that I, and only I, get to decide which past versions of myself get to come along for the ride, which ones I want and need to shed, and who I become next.”

“‘Plain Jane’ is the alchemy of our stories as a band, of growing up in the suburbs, the nostalgia of the songs we listened to in youth and the early 2000s, our trials and tribulations in love and self-discovery, the journey we had to go through to chase this crazy dream, and showing up authentically on the other side, even when it’s difficult. After six years of dreaming it into existence, ‘Plain Jane’ is finally here, and we couldn’t be more proud of it.”

“We started scheming up this album in 2020 and in a way it feels like us as a band and as individuals grew up alongside ‘Plain Jane,'” Forbes said. “We wanted the album to be a stepping stone for anyone out there who feels like they don’t belong, or have big dreams, or just imagine something different for their life that they might not feel brave enough to make happen yet.”

“I was still figuring all of that out when we started this album, and just as we are releasing it into the world, I feel like I’ve shed it all. It’s taught me to no longer be afraid of what people think, of disappointing people, of carving my own path and going against the grain. Putting it out feels like a statement to the world: ‘This is who I am and who I’ve always been.'”

“The process was a true labor of love and growth, both as individuals and as a band,” Pacheco said. “What we’ve ended up with is a record that feels like a fully realized version of the sonics and ethos we started back in 2020. ‘Plain Jane’ is the proper Moody Joody ‘mission statement,’ and we are so grateful to have it out in the world.”

In addition to dropping the album, Moody Joody released the official music video for their latest single, “Heart Shaped Bed.”

The group will perform new music at The Maine’s 8123 Fest in January and embark on a 2027 tour alongside Valley.

The band has amassed over 23 million streams worldwide. Their music has received support from SiriusXM’s Alt Nation, Amazon Music’s Breakthrough Pop, and Spotify’s popular playlists, including New Music Friday and All New Pop.

The band has been featured by Rolling Stone, The Fader, Flood Magazine, Notion, MTV, Entertainment Tonight, Dork, Clash, The Tennessean, Ladygunn, and more. The trio has played at South by Southwest and Austin City Limits and has toured with The Maine, Smallpools, MisterWives, and Arizona.
