At least five killed in Odessa-Midland shooting

The Odessa Police Department confirmed that at least five people have been killed and more than 20 injured after a person opened fire on a highway between Midland and Odessa, Texas. The Midland Police Department confirmed that shooter was killed and there is no longer a threat.

Authorities in Midland, Texas, confirm the active shooter “was shot and killed” in Odessa. Odessa Police doesn’t have an ID for the deceased shooter but says it is a white male in his mid 30s. Seven of the shooting victims are in critical condition, according to Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.

FBI El Paso: “FBI personnel are on scene and assisting with the active shooter investigation” in Midland and Odessa, Texas. “It is too soon to know motive or the identity of the suspect.”

Lead doctor in emergency room is an a Iraq war veteran who has seen mass casualties in war. He says there are more than a 100 people at the hospital and law-enforcement who were prepared to save lives today in Odessa.

Odessa emergency room doctor says they had practiced for an incident like a mass shooting and we’re prepared at the hospital. He adds that’s why they were able to save 13 lives today.
