Your Christmas wish has already come true: Beyoncé will perform as part of the halftime show for Netflix’s first-ever NFL Christmas Gameday, available to audiences everywhere on December 25. It comes amidst a Baltimore Ravens vs. Houston Texans matchup at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas, and is set to kick off at 4:30 PM ET.
The halftime show will be one of the highly anticipated live performances of the tracks from Beyoncé’s record-shattering album Cowboy Carter. Produced by her company, Parkwood Entertainment, in association with Jesse Collins Entertainment, it looks like an affair that would serve “Beyoncé’s iconic stage presence with an injection of hometown roots.” Indeed, Cowboy Carter, already mauling all over like a force of nature, this past week became the most Grammy-nominated album by a female artist, earning 11 nods.
This is going to be Beyoncé’s third appearance during the halftime of major NFL games. She first headlined Super Bowl XLVII in 2013, when she, along with Destiny’s Child featuring Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, gave the legendary performance in New Orleans. It then became the second most-watched Super Bowl halftime performance in history.
In 2016, Beyoncé was back on the Super Bowl stage with headliner Coldplay and returning special guest Bruno Mars for Super Bowl L in Santa Clara, California. Her politically charged performance of “Formation” helped make it the most-watched show with a record 115.5 million viewers.
Now, Beyoncé’s return onto an NFL stage—this time for a holiday audience—is expected to captivate millions once again.
Netflix becomes the historic home for the NFL Christmas Day pair: the Kansas City Chiefs, reigning Super Bowl LVII champions, take on the Pittsburgh Steelers at 1 PM ET, then the second match will be the Ravens versus the Texans at 4:30 PM ET, all leading up to one of the most highly-anticipated halftime shows headlined by Beyoncé.
As a nod to tradition, games will also air on broadcast TV in competing team cities and on U.S. mobile devices over NFL+.
The NFL Christmas Day games have been confirmed by Netflix, who announced the plans to bring this festive football tradition through to 2025 and 2026. This deal between Netflix and the NFL is one evolutionary milestone that reassesses how fans enjoy live sports.
Details of Beyoncé’s performance remain scarce, but speculation runs thick on the ground among fans about possible guest appearances from contributors to Cowboy Carter. Given her history of unforgettable live performances, this could be one of those moments that go down in NFL and pop history.
This Christmas, the NFL, Netflix, and Beyoncé are teaming up to deliver an unparalleled blend of sports and entertainment—guaranteeing a holiday to remember for millions of fans worldwide.
