Black Actresses Making History With Their Emmy Nominations

The world is praising a historic first for the Emmy Awards after nominations were announced this morning. For the first time in its 71-year history, Black actresses dominated the Emmy nominations.

“Self Made’s” star Octavia Spencer, “Little Fires Everywhere” star Kerry Washington, and “Watchmen” star Regina King are all nominated for best actress for lead in a limited series or movie.

“Insecure” star Issa Rae and “Black-ish” star Tracee Ellis Ross are nominated for lead actress in a comedy series. Yvonne Orji is also nominated for best supporting actress in a comedy series for her work in “Insecure.”

Zendaya received her first nomination ever for lead actress in a drama series for her work in HBO’s “Euphoria.”
