Canelo Alvarez defeats Billy Joe Saunders by 8th round TKO to become the Unified Middleweight Champion of the world.

Billy Joe Saunders has suffered what is suspected to be fractured orbital bone, hence why the Canelo fight was stopped. It’s reported he’s on his way to hospital.

Canelo says he told Eddy Reynoso “I know he’s not coming out because I broke his cheek.” That right uppercut with Billy Joe crouched absolutely smashed him and instantly shut his right eye.

Eddie Hearn on Canelo’s stoppage of Billy Joe Saunders: “He couldn’t see. I spoke to Mark Tibbs, he said he couldn’t see and he wouldn’t let him go out. He busted his eye socket.”

All three judges had Canelo Alvarez leading Billy Joe Saunders at time of stoppage.
