The mother of the 11-year-old girl involved in a recent incident with a security guard allegedly affiliated with pop singer Chappell Roan is speaking out to tell her side of the story of what she calls an “aggressive” confrontation at a hotel in São Paulo.
Harding explained that she is speaking out because she had been receiving many messages asking her to share her side of the story after the singer responded to her initial message about the incident.
“Honestly, I didn’t realize it would get this crazy,” Harding said. “A lot of you asked what actually happened.”
While Harding is certain that the security guard involved in the incident with her daughter did not work at the hotel they were at, she is unsure if he worked for the singer.
“100% this security guard was not a security guard of the hotel,” Harding said. “He looks after artists, so I don’t know if it was her personal security guard, but he was with her. That is all I know.”
She also cannot confirm whether the singer had ordered the security guard to intervene in the situation involving her daughter.
“I would like to hope not,” Harding said. “But at the same time, I think that you have a responsibility when you are a celebrity to make sure that the people that work for you and act on your behalf are acting appropriately.”
The situation began at breakfast at the hotel where Harding and her daughter were staying, when her daughter spotted her in the hotel’s garden.
“She didn’t have her phone, she didn’t try to take a picture, she didn’t approach her,” Harding said. “She literally didn’t do anything. She just looked at her and smiled.”
Harding said her daughter went back to the table and wasn’t sure if she was indeed looking at the singer. They continued to eat their breakfast until the security guard came over to their table.
Harding said the security guard’s tone was “very aggressive,” and she was scared by his behavior.
“For him to come to a table with just a woman and her daughter eating breakfast, to kind of scold us … I was shocked,” she said.
Harding said the security guard told her daughter she was being very disrespectful, that she should be “taught to be better,” and that the guard threatened to file a complaint.
Harding said she was trying to explain to the security guard that her daughter was very excited to see her favorite artist and was in no way being disrespectful.
“She’s a child, and she was just very excited,” Harding said.
Harding also said she believed she was in a public area of the hotel and that she was a paying customer.
“If she doesn’t want people to look at her, she is very welcome to eat breakfast in her room,” Harding said.
While she was annoyed by the security guard’s behavior at the hotel, she said she believes Roan is a very talented artist and hopes she didn’t know about the situation.
“I hope that she did not know, and I hope that she did not send her security over to do this,” Harding said.
She also mentioned that the event affected her daughter’s birthday celebration, and they decided not to attend the concert at Roan in São Paulo.
The incident has attracted public attention, with reports from Harding and Roan contributing to the debate over celebrity security and interactions with fans.
Harding has said that she has no plans to comment further on the issue.
“This is the last thing I’m going to say about this now, because it’s getting a bit crazy.”
