Christine Obanor, known for her appearances on Netflix’s Too Hot to Handle and Perfect Match, has captivated audiences with her striking presence and bold personality.

However, beyond the cameras and reality TV drama, she has been navigating a deeply personal and professional journey.

In an exclusive interview with Where Is The Buzz, Obanor opened up about the emotional highs and lows following Perfect Match, her unforgettable meeting with Rihanna, and her aspirations in the fashion industry.

Life After Perfect Match: A Journey of Growth and Faith

For many reality TV stars, life after the show can be unpredictable. For Christine Obanor, it was a whirlwind of emotions, both exhilarating and challenging. While she anticipated Perfect Match to be a different experience compared to Too Hot to Handle, the reality of its aftermath took her by surprise.

“Life after Perfect Match has been a whirlwind of change,” Obanor shared. “I expected a different outcome, but in the end, everything fell into place for the better.”

Despite the exposure and opportunities that followed, she faced intense public scrutiny, coupled with personal heartbreak. The overwhelming attention and negativity took a toll on her mental health, leading to one of the most difficult periods in her life.

“My mental health hit rock bottom,” she admitted. “But strangely, that low point became the turning point—I found my way back to God. That journey led me to Jesus, and looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing.”

Obanor credits this experience for shaping her into the person she is today. While she remains open to returning to reality TV, she is taking a more thoughtful approach.

“I miss it—it’s like an itch that’s just waiting to be scratched,” she said. “I’m not opposed to making a comeback, but for now, I’m taking it one step at a time and seeing where the future leads.”

A Dream Come True: Meeting Rihanna

One of Obanor’s most surreal moments was meeting global superstar Rihanna—a moment that felt like destiny to her.

“I’ve been a fan since childhood—so much so that I used to argue with kids at school defending her like my life depended on it,” she said with a laugh.

Her admiration for Rihanna even carried into her college years, where friends humored her playful obsession by pretending she was Rihanna.

“Fast forward years later, actually meeting her? It felt like a full-circle moment. I wish I could go back in time and tell younger Christine that it would all happen one day.”

As a fan of Savage X Fenty, Rihanna’s inclusive and empowering lingerie brand, Obanor dreams of collaborating with the company in the future.

“Working with Savage X Fenty is a dream of mine, and I’m already on their radar—so I’m keeping my fingers crossed and my prayers up. Manifesting that one!”

Paving a Path in the Modeling Industry

Despite her reality TV fame, Obanor is still actively building her career in the modeling world. While social media has helped her gain visibility, she recognizes that transitioning into high fashion requires perseverance.

“When I first stepped into reality TV, my goal was to elevate my modeling career, but the journey has been anything but easy,” she revealed.

Though she has attracted attention from brands, she continues to work tirelessly to break into major fashion circles. When asked which fashion houses she dreams of walking for, she didn’t hesitate.

“There are countless fashion houses I dream of walking for, but if I had to name a few? Victoria’s Secret (because who doesn’t want to be an Angel?), Mugler, Versace, and Dior. The grind continues, and I’m manifesting every runway moment ahead.”

Supermodel Icons: The Women Who Inspire Her

As a rising model, Obanor looks up to some of the most legendary figures in the industry. She proudly named her “Mount Rushmore of Supermodels,” paying tribute to the pioneers who paved the way.

“No question—Naomi Campbell, Tyra Banks, Iman, and our Queen, Beverly Johnson, the first Black model to grace the cover of American Vogue.”

As for the current generation of supermodels, she has a strong admiration for Iman Hammam, Anok Yai, Bella Hadid, and Kendall Jenner. She specifically praised Jenner for overcoming skepticism in the fashion world due to her reality TV background.

“Recently, I learned through Coco Rocha (who I absolutely adore) that Kendall actually faced rejection in the modeling industry at first. Back then, reality TV and high fashion didn’t mix. She only got her shot when the industry realized her platform gave her incredible reach, but contrary to what people assume, she wasn’t just handed top designer campaigns. She started from the bottom and worked her way up, proving how much she truly wanted it. I respect that grind.”

For Obanor, Iman Hammam holds a special place as an inspiration.

“I’ve been obsessed with her since the start of my own modeling journey. She represents a look that’s so close to mine, and seeing her dominate the industry gave me hope that I could do the same,” she shared. “In such a competitive space, having someone who reflects your beauty and identity is powerful. It reminds you that your place in the industry is possible, too.”
