D.C. police officer shot and killed a young man Wednesday afternoon in Southeast Washington’s Congress Heights neighborhood, the District’s police chief said.
The incident occurred shortly before 4 p.m. in the 200 block of Orange Street SE. Relatives identified the person killed as Deon Kay, who turned 18 last month.
Deon Kay mother Natasha told The Washington Post: ‘They took my child, they simply took my child from me. I want my son again, I would like my son again.’ Police Leader Peter Newsham mentioned: ‘Uniformed cops had knowledge that there have been guys locally with weapons, in particular. ‘That is what they had been searching for and plainly that is what they discovered. We imagine the topic had a gun on the time.’ Newsham said the suspects had fled on foot when approached by police; one man was shot and pronounced dead at the scene. Two firearms were retrieved at the scene in the 200 block of Orange St. SE, according to the police chief. A woman at the scene told reporters that Deon Kay was unarmed.#RT @shaunking: RT @pdxlawgrrrl: “The police officer killed my nephew today. Shot him in the back.
