Netflix announced today that production has begun on the highly anticipated original supernatural series East Palace (working title). Penned by the creative team behind Bulgasal: Immortal Souls and The Devil Judge, the show promises a riveting story set in a world where ghosts and spirits collide with the human realm.
The series is written by Kwon So-ra and Seo Jea-won, the duo known for crafting rich, otherworldly tales, and directed by Choi Jung-kyu, whose work on *The Devil Judge* showcased his knack for atmospheric storytelling. With these genre powerhouses at the helm, East Palace is shaping up to be a must-watch.
Leading the cast is Nam Joo-hyuk (Twenty Five Twenty One, Start-Up), who stars as Gu-cheon, a swordsman able to navigate the ghostly realm in order to defeat spirits. Commissioned to investigate the mysterious and cursed royal palace, Gu-cheon is thrown into a shadowy world full of danger and intrigue.
He is joined by Roh Yoon-seo (Crash Course in Romance, 20th Century Girl), who plays Saeng-gang, a court lady saddled with the ability to hear ghosts. What she once considered a curse, Saeng-gang soon learns to wield her singular gift, joining forces with Gu-cheon to root out the mysteries of the palace while concealing a secret of her own.
Cho Seung-woo (Stranger, Life, Sisyphus) rounds out the lead trio as the mystifying King. Though his rule is benevolent, it has a dark underbelly King hires Gu-cheon and Saeng-gang on the sly to get rid of the curse in the palace. A Tale of Mystery and Secrets
