Eminem secures his ninth number one album on the billboard 200 chart, his surprise release Kamikaze earned over 434,000 equivalent album sales first week. At least 252,000 copies sold were traditional album sales, according to Billboard.
Kamikaze destroyed Eminem last album Revival. His last album sold over 267,000 copies first week. Most critics called Revival Eminem worse project and I agree with the critics. Revival was too much of a pop album. In his recent project we got the most important thing in a Eminem project and that’s his rapping.
Eminem ninth number one debut ties him with legends such as Garth Brooks and The Rolling Stones for sixth most leaders in chart history. He’s now only behind The Beatles (with 19), JAY-Z (13), Bruce Springsteen and Barbra Streisand (both with 11) and Elvis Presley (10). The only rapper ahead of Eminem is Jay-Z with 13 solo number one albums.
Kamikaze is the fourth largest week for an album in 2018. The only debuts bigger than Kamikaze came from three other rappers. Drake’s Scorpion did (732,000) first week. Travis Scott’s Astroworld did (537,000) first week. Post Malone’s Beerbongs & Bentley’s did (461,000) first week. Kamikaze is Eminem largest first week streaming album ever. The album did over 225.5 million streams in it’s first week.
During his first week of Kamikaze, Eminem released his music video, Fall.
He also got a response back from one of the many rappers he dissed on Kamikaze. MGK came back with a good diss song called Rap Devil, check it out below and see if you think Eminem has to respond to this diss track.
