Tonight, BET Media Group and Entertainment Tonight bring the life and impact of one of the most legendary icons in music and culture, Quincy Jones, with a primetime news special titled BET AND ET PRESENT QUINCY JONES: LIFE AND LEGACY. This one-hour tribute, premiering at 9 PM ET/PT on BET, looks into the unprecedented career, life, and legacy of Jones through rarely seen archival footage and exclusive interviews that explore his impact on the music, television, and film industries right down to philanthropy.

The special will follow Jones from young, aspiring musician to global icon and show how he has left an indelible mark on several generations of music lovers. Over the course of a boundary-pushing career, he worked with many of the most iconic artists of his time and became an outspoken advocate for a variety of social causes that helped reshape the cultural landscape.

As Scott Mills, President and CEO of BET Media Group, said in one moving tribute after another: “We are deeply saddened to lose a true cultural titan and visionary. Quincy Jones was more than a musical genius; his trailblazing influence upon Black culture and within the global music landscape is simply immeasurable.”. His work broke barriers, set new standards of excellence, and inspired generations to believe in the power of their art and voices. With his groundbreaking compositions, timeless productions, and relentless advocacy, Quincy redefined what was possible and helped shape the soundtrack of our lives. BET honors his legacy and will keep celebrating his indelible contributions to our community and beyond. He will be deeply missed.”

The program will delve into Jones’ career-defining projects: from seminal collaborations with legends such as Michael Jackson and Aretha Franklin, creating some of the most recognizable and timeless music ever, to the production of the historic 1985 charity single We Are the World, which got some of the biggest names in music together on a song that would raise money for famine relief in Africa. This humanitarian effort epitomized Jones’ determination to take advantage of his platform to have a tangible impact on society.

During this special, ET shares never-before-seen and particularly intimate moments in Jones’ life that have been captured while covering all of his career-defining projects. These behind-the-scenes moments made crystal clear to viewers the genius at work that is Quincy Jones-an innovator whose creativity knew no bounds, whose collaborations elevated music, film, and television alike. But his influence extended well beyond the entertainment world into one of advocacy: civil rights, global poverty alleviation, and more-a testament to the transcendent power of art.

This will be followed at 10 PM ET/PT by an encore presentation of Q 85: A Musical Celebration for Quincy Jones. The original two-hour special-a birthday tribute to the producer extraordinaire’s 85th year of life-features an all-star cast of performers and special guests, including his daughter, actress/producer Rashida Jones. Musical tributes to his career come from celebrated artists Brian McKnight, John Legend, Jennifer Hudson, Meghan Trainor, LL Cool J, Ludacris, Charlie Wilson, Cynthia Erivo, Ledisi, Herbie Hancock, Gregory Porter, Fantasia, Patti Austin, NE-YO, Terrance Blanchard, Yolanda Adams, Dave Chappelle, Gloria Estefan, Emily Estefan, Gladys Knight, and Danny Glover.

This is a night of wonder to celebrate lifelong contributions, influence across generations, and unflinching dedication to one’s craft and humanity.
