Let’s take a look at the highly anticipated Descendants: Wicked Wonderland, the fifth installment of the popular music- and dance-infused franchise. It’s dropping today ahead of the all-new Descendants/ZOMBIES Worlds Collide: Concert Special. This new movie is set to drop on Disney+ this summer.

Descendants: Wicked Wonderland explores the meaning of happily ever after with Red (Kylie Cantrall) and Chloe (Malia Baker) after their time-traveling adventures in the upcoming Descendants: The Rise of Red, set to drop in 2024. This film mostly takes place in the present day in Wonderland and brings back many favorite characters, both old and new, while revisiting the big lesson of the last film: messing with time has big consequences.

In the first look at the film, Red and Chloe hide their biggest secret of time traveling with the pocket watch in the Royal Vault without realizing the new threat that’s about to come their way. Maddox Hatter, played by Leonardo Nam, comes back as the new big villain who wants to know the location of the time-traveling watch and use time and Wonderland to his own evil devices.

Returning cast members include Cantrall, Baker, Nam, Melanie Paxson as Fairy Godmother, Brandy as Cinderella, Paolo Montalban as King Charming, and Rita Ora as the Queen of Hearts. New cast members include Liamani Segura as Pink, Alexandro Byrd as Luis Madrigal, Brendon Tremblay as Max Hatter, Kiara Romero as Hazel Hook, Joel Oulette as Robbie Hood, Zavien Garrett as Felix Facilier, Ryan McEwen as Squirmy Smee, and Dayton Paradis as Squeaky Smee.

Kimmy Gatewood helms the film, based on a script by Tamara Chestna, co-executive producer, with Dan Frey and Ru Sommer. Executive producers Suzanne Todd and Gary Marsh return to the franchise. Gatewood also serves as the film’s co-executive producer. Emmy Award-winning choreographer Emilio Dosal has been tapped to handle the new music and dance scenes. This is a signature part of the series.

The Descendants franchise has been a major player in the entertainment landscape since the launch of the first film in 2015. Each of the first three films was the number one most-watched cable movie of its respective year. In addition, the series has delivered nearly 1 billion viewing hours across TV and streaming services in the U.S.

Descendants: The Rise of Red was the number one movie for kids and girls ages 6-11 on Disney+ in 2024. It was the year’s top original movie, with more than 9 billion lifetime views. It even inspired a popular Halloween costume trend.

Descendants/ZOMBIES Worlds Collide: Concert Special and other Descendants films are now streaming on Disney+.
