Three female teenagers have died while visiting the scenic spots at the Mullungummi waterfall, located in Andhra Pradesh’s Alluri Sitharama Raju district, on Thursday, when they slipped while attempting to take photographs.
As per the official statement by the local authorities, the three victims include two young teens aged 16 years, identified as Ratna Kumari and Pavitra, and one 17-year-old girl named Trisha. The incident occurred at Mullungummi waterfall near Burja panchayat, Hukumpeta mandal. They hail from the Jambavalasa village.
According to officials, there was a group of five girls at the site, visiting during the festival holidays. Reportedly, a group of five young girls went to the site to take photos. Three of the girls climbed onto a large rock in the middle of the stream and fell into the water while trying to take photos and selfie videos.
Unfortunately, despite the locals’ efforts to save them, the girls have been dragged away. The rest of the girls did not suffer any injuries.
An autopsy was ordered to be conducted at the spot, and an FIR was filed for further investigations.
Incidents like these have become a safety concern for the district, as the waterfall spots are often used as picnic spots by tourists; however, there have been several instances of people drowning in the waterfall due to negligence. Locals want the administration to install safety signs at such places, as many tourists tend to ignore the warning signs.
