A former Pine Island Middle School volleyball coach and teacher named Lindsey Schneeberger has been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old student, according to KIMT3 News.
According to Rochester Police Department, the student’s mother discovered text messages indicating an inappropriate relationship.
According to Pine Island Public School Superintendent Tamara Champa, Schneeberger was placed on leave on March 6, 2023, due to an investigation.
The teacher is accused of sexually assaulting the young girl between March 1, 2023, and May 15, 2023, which means she was allegedly sexually assaulting her even after being investigated.
Schneeberger resigned on March 16th, according to Pine Island school board records. On March 28th, it was approved.
Lindsey Schneeberger was arrested Thursday, according to the Rochester Police Department (RPD). She was arrested on May 25th after being accused of assaulting the student at her Rochester home.
Tammy Champa, superintendent of Pine Island Public Schools, issued the following statement:
“The Pine Island School District is aware of the pending criminal charges regarding Lindsay Schneeberger, a former employee of the School District. The School District takes the safety and security of our students very seriously and has been cooperating and will continue to cooperate fully with law enforcement in its investigation.”
“As mentioned, Ms. Schneeberger is no longer an employee of the School District. She ended her employment on March 16, 2023, prior to the filing of the pending criminal charges against her.”
“This is the extent of the information the School District can provide about this matter as any further data is classified as private or confidential pursuant to state and/or federal law.”
Schneeberger took a job at Byron Public Schools after resigning from Pine Island Public Schools, and the district learned of her charges on May 26th.
Mike Neubeck, superintendent of Byron Public Schools, issued the following statement to parents of Byron students:
“Today, for the first time, Byron Public Schools learned of the pending criminal charges against Lindsey Schneeberger while she was employed in a different school district. There have been no allegations involving students at Byron Public Schools. Ms. Schneeberger is not scheduled to work and will not have access to any students. Further information regarding her employment is private personnel data at this point in time. There is nothing more important than the safety, security and well-being of our students and, while privacy laws do not allow us to discuss all of the actions that have been taken, please understand that the District immediately responded to the information received today. If you have any information related to this matter, you are urged to contact the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Department.”
Schneeberger faces three charges of first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a child under 14-position of authority, according to court documents obtained by ABC 6 News, because the alleged victim was 13 at the time the Pine Island teacher allegedly initiated sexual contact.
Schneeberger is currently being held at the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center on $75,000 bail. If convicted on all three counts, she faces a presumptive 234-month prison sentence. Schneeberger’s next court appearance is scheduled for June 8, 2023.
