A Grand Rapids, MI, officer tackled a 26-yr-old Black man and kicked him before fatally shooting him during a traffic stop on April 4th, newly released footage appears to show.
The officer’s body cam footage shut off before the shooting of Patrick Lyoya, but it was caught on a cellphone.
Grand Rapids Police Chief Eric Winstrom declined to name the officer who fatally shot Patrick Lyoya on April 4. “If the officer is charged with a crime, we will name him at that time,” Winstrom said during a press conference today. Police revealed the officer has been suspended.
Hundreds of protesters take to the streets in Grand Rapids, Michigan following today’s release of footage from the Patrick Lyoya shooting.
