Gypsy Rose Blanchard, recently released from prison after a nine-year sentence for the murder of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, has shared her thoughts on the onscreen adaptations of her tumultuous life, notably Hulu’s series, The Act.
The nation was captivated by Gypsy’s trial, where it was unveiled that she had been allegedly abused by her mother, who convinced her she had been unwell since childhood. This revelation has spurred various adaptations depicting Gypsy’s troubled upbringing.
Despite the widespread acclaim for The Act, Gypsy confessed to Access Hollywood that she hasn’t watched the series, stating, “I feel like I lived it; it was my life. I don’t feel like I have to go back and watch it played out.”
Acknowledging actress Joey King, who portrayed her younger self, Gypsy commended her performance, noting, “I’m sure that Joey King did an amazing job playing me. I actually heard an audio clip of her doing my voice, and I think she got it spot on.”
However, Gypsy emphasized the importance of not reliving the trauma, expressing, “But I think honestly not re-living the trauma is probably the best option for me.”
When asked about choosing an actress, Gypsy revealed her preference for Millie Bobby Brown, known for her role in Stranger Things. “It’s funny because I always wanted Millie Bobby Brown to play me; I think she would be good at playing me.”
Gypsy’s troubled upbringing involved unnecessary medical procedures, including the use of a wheelchair, a feeding tube, and surgeries, all falsely presented to the public. Her story sheds light on the complexity of her past and the challenges she faces moving forward.
