Jay-Z is pushing back against a lawsuit accusing him of rape, insisting that the plaintiff—who filed the case anonymously—should be required to reveal her identity.
The rap mogul filed court documents on Monday through his attorney, Alex Spiro, arguing that the anonymous accusations unfairly damage his reputation.
“Fair is fair. It’s not right, just, or in line with federal rules for the plaintiff and her legal team to tarnish [Jay-Z]’s good name in secret,” Spiro stated in the filing, emphasizing Jay-Z’s “impeccable reputation.” The documents also note that Jay-Z has never faced any prior accusations of sexual misconduct.
The lawsuit originally surfaced in October when the plaintiff accused Sean “Diddy” Combs and an unnamed celebrity of raping her at a 2000 MTV Video Music Awards afterparty.
At the time of the alleged incident, the plaintiff was 13 years old. On Sunday, the plaintiff refiled the case, identifying Jay-Z as the previously unnamed individual.
Jay-Z has vehemently denied the allegations. In the court filings, he accuses the plaintiff and her attorney, Tony Buzbee, of attempting to extort him by threatening to expose his name unless he agreed to a settlement.
