I’m not a businessman. I’m a business, man words from Hov. Jay-Z said that in 2005 and now in 2019 Forbes announced today he is the first hip hop artist ever to reach billionaire club.
Throughout his career we’ve seen Jay-Z dominate the music industry and transform into a well-respected business mogul. Those who have followed his journey always wondered when he would join the billionaire club and it looks like it finally happened.
Forbes first shared the exciting news and also broke down how the 49-year reached this huge accomplishment.
“To calculate his net worth, we looked at the artist’s stakes in companies like Armand de Brignac champagne—applying our customary discount to private firms—then added up his income, subtracting a healthy amount to account for a superstar lifestyle. We checked our numbers with a roster of outside experts to ensure these estimates were fair and conservative. Turns out, Jay-Z really is a business, man,” Forbes wrote.
From there, they listed his major assets, which are as follows: Armand de Brignac champagne ($310 million), cash and investments including a stake in Uber worth an estimated $70 million ($220 million), D’Ussé cognac ($100 million), Tidal streaming service ($100 million), Roc Nation ($75 million), music catalog ($75 million), art collection ($70 million), and real estate ($50 million).
Congratulations to arguably the greatest rapper to have ever lived. It’s a great day for the culture.
