Jenna Lynn Meowri, a cosplayer and internet personality, brought social media to a standstill this week as she joked that she is being 3D-scanned to be the real-life model for Jessica Rabbit in a live-action movie.
Whether this was a joke or a sneaky marketing ploy, Meowri timed it just right, as the franchise is finally being revived, according to the man behind Roger Rabbit, author Gary K. Wolf.
It’s finally happening! After 37 long years, the universe that belongs to “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” is now official.
Gary K. Wolf confirmed to ImNotBad.com that he has regained the rights to the original characters, Roger, Jessica, and the wacky folks of Toontown, via a copyright restoration procedure known as the 35-Year Copyright Reversion Clause.
“I now have back the rights to all my characters, all my books,” Wolf stated. “I can, basically, do my own Roger Rabbit projects,” he added.
Disney didn’t resist that either. “I figured this was going to be an argument, and this was all very civil, very polite, very direct,” he continues. “Disney was always top-notch with me.”
Rights secured, Wolf is now lining up a complete Roger Rabbit movie resurrection, including a live-action Jessica Rabbit movie, tied to a 2022 novel he wrote, ‘Jessica Rabbit: XERIOUS Business.’
“The one that is most prominent … is a live-action Jessica Rabbit movie,” Wolf announced. “That was the first project we started developing. It’s probably the one that’s furthest along right now.”
