Johnny Magee: Houma Police Shot An Unarmed Black Man Suffering From Mental Illness Seven Times

A 36-year-old black man named Johnny Magee was gunned down by Houma Police, according to WDSU reporter Shay O’Connor.

Magee suffered from bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. He was having a mental episode, Magee’s mother told the WDSU reporter. Lorraine Magee regrets calling the police to help her aid son after she claims her son was unarmed when he was shot at least seven times by officers when they arrived at the scene.

Johnny Magee was transferred to the hospital and pronounced dead. The Louisiana State Police department told the outlet that there was some type of altercation before the shooting occurred. Officials also say of the two officers who responded to the call, only one fired his weapon.

This is a developing story and we will keep you updated on this case. Our condolences goes out to Johnny Magee family and friends.
