Nearly three decades after the tragic murder of six-year-old JonBenét Ramsey, her father John Ramsey claims to have received a bombshell letter from a woman alleging that her ex-husband was behind the crime. The new claim comes as the case gains fresh attention amid interest in the Netflix true-crime special Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey?

According to Ramsey, the woman’s letter expressed anguish and urgency. “My ex-husband’s the killer, and I’ve kept this inside for as long as I can – please, please call me,” the letter reportedly said.

John Ramsey, who has tirelessly sought justice for his daughter since her death in 1996, immediately tried to contact the woman, but she did not respond to his attempts. Determined to follow up, he handed the information to a private investigator for further examination.

“I’m hopeful, but cautiously so,” Ramsey stated in an interview. “We’ve seen so many leads over the years, and while I want to believe this could finally bring answers, we know the importance of vetting every detail.”

The murder of JonBenét remains one of the most notorious unsolved murders in U.S. history. On December 26, 1996, the young beauty pageant contestant was found brutally murdered and sexually attacked in the basement of her family’s home in Boulder, Colorado. A ransom note had been left behind, which led to a convoluted investigation filled with missteps, speculation, and controversy.

The Ramsey family faced years of public suspicion before DNA evidence led the Boulder District Attorney’s Office to officially clear them in 2008. Despite this, the case has remained cold, with no arrests or charges made.

The Netflix documentary aired recently, and it renewed interest in the case with speculation of overlooked evidence and how modern forensic testing could have new information. Ramsey has been vocal in asking for DNA evidence to be retested using advanced techniques.

“This letter could be a turning point, or it could be another dead end,” Ramsey acknowledged. “But after all this time, every lead deserves to be pursued. JonBenét deserves that.”

As private investigators follow up on the new claim, experts caution that such leads can often be unreliable. However, with advancements in DNA testing and renewed public focus on the case, some remain hopeful that the truth about what happened to JonBenét Ramsey may finally come to light.
