Warner Bros. Discovery and New Line Cinema are embarking on a new journey into Middle-earth with the upcoming animated theatrical release of The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim. Set 183 years before the events of the original Lord of the Rings trilogy, this prequel film will delve into the legendary tale of Helm Hammerhand, King of Rohan.
Directed by renowned anime director Kenji Kamiyama, The War of the Rohirrim promises to deliver a visually stunning and action-packed adventure. The film will explore the conflict between Helm and the ruthless Dunlending lord Wulf, who seeks revenge for the death of his father. Helm’s daughter, Héra, is caught in the crossfire, a spirited young woman who must navigate the treacherous waters of war and family loyalty.
The voice cast for The War of the Rohirrim is a blend of seasoned actors and rising stars. Brian Cox, known for his role in Succession, will lend his voice to Helm Hammerhand. Gaia Wise will portray Héra, while Luke Pasqualino will take on the role of the villainous Wulf. Miranda Otto, who played Éowyn in the live-action Lord of the Rings films, will be the animated prequel’s narrator.
The War of the Rohirrim is just the beginning of Warner Bros. Discovery’s renewed commitment to the Lord of the Rings franchise. A live-action spinoff film, Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, is also in development. Andy Serkis, who previously portrayed Gollum in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, will reprise the role and direct the film.
The upcoming release of The War of the Rohirrim marks a significant step in Warner Bros. Discovery’s efforts to expand its anime-inspired content. In recent years, the studio has produced animated series based on popular Western franchises, such as Suicide Squad Isekai and Rick and Morty: The Anime.
The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is a highly anticipated animated film that promises to captivate audiences with its stunning visuals, compelling narrative, and talented cast. Set for a theatrical release on December 13, 2024, this epic adventure will transport viewers back to the enchanting world of Middle-earth.

Not an Animee fan (too old probably) but this does look good and the music seemed great! 😊
Mix feeling but gonna give it a go
This looks actually amazing, great effects
Ring is reckoning 🔥🔥 #LOTR
Of course she’s the fastest rider and could rule the world. I’m sure the only thing holding her back is the patriarchy 😂
Disappointing, but not surprising.
Imagine making the unnamed daughter the focus of this story.
I had hoped for better.
Because you don’t like empowered women? Is that it?
You probably LOVE the Peter Jackson trilogy then
Not at all.
It’s because a story about Helm Hammerhand is not focusing on him, but his daughter that Tolkien didn’t even name.
So because she doesn’t have a name she can’t be a protagonist, but when there are like 2 paragraphs about a male character in the text, it’s ok?
How the fuck does it look disappointing? The music is beautiful. The art and animation are beautiful. The whole concept is good.
Who else isn’t gassed about this? The old one better fr
we are watching
Waiting this movie so eagerly
