Lupita Nyong’o, Eddie Murphy, Taylor Russell, Melina Matsoukas, and Jamie Foxx Are Some Of The Biggest Oscars Snubs

Lupita’s performance in “Us” was one of the best performances of last year and yet it got completely ignored by the academy and that is absolutely unacceptable.

Lupita snub is predictable because of the academy’s well documented bias against horror movies. Still infuriating. She delivered two career best performances in one film! This will go down as a historic cinema injustice.

The Academy pretty much looked at Lupita Nyong’o and said, “We prefer you as a slave.” Which is ironic because the only black feature film that got any consideration this year was Harriet.

If Cynthia Erivo doesn’t win the Oscar this year then Halle Berry will remain the only black actress to win an Oscar for best actress in a leading role. No Angela Bassett. No Viola Davis. No Lupita Nyong’o. No Octavia Spencer. No Alfre Woodward. Unacceptable.

Eddie Murphy portraying Rudy Ray Moore in “Dolemite Is My Name,” was another Oscar snub. Eddie should have received an nomination for best actor. Dolemite Is My Name was one of the best and inspiring movies of all last year.

Jamie Foxx should have received an Oscar nomination for best supporting actor in the film Just Mercy.

Alfre Woodward starring in “Clemency” could have received more love. Definitely was a better performance than most of the actresses nominated for best actress.

Taylor Russell should have received an Oscar nomination for best supporting actor in the movie “Waves.” Taylor had one of the best acting performances in general all last year.

Awkwafina who won the Golden Globe this year wasn’t even nominated for her performance in “The Farewell.”

“Female filmmakers were entirely shut out of the best director race.”

Melina Matsoukas and Greta Gerwig should have received some love for Best Director. Especially over Quentin Tarantino.

No matter how the Academy tries to diversify itself, it continues to have a serious problem with female directors. In the Oscars’ 91 year (!) existence, ONE woman – Kathryn Bigelow for the Hurt Locker – has won Best Director.

Oscars round up: One single nomination for an actor / actress of color across four categories, one director of color, no women directors, one writer of color and one woman, and maybe half a dozen women out of 50+ nominees in technical categories, right?
