In an interview with Candace Owens in June, the actor and television host made controversial comments about the #BelieveWomen movement and gender expression in children, saying “if you’re 3 years old and you’re saying you’re feeling a certain way or you think you’re a boy or a girl or whatever the case may be, I just think it’s dangerous as a parent to make this determination is ‘sort of alarming’ during discussion about Charlize Theron’s upbringing of her adopted trans daughter Jackson, seven.

Mario Lopez’s suggesting that parents ought not accept their trans kids — kids who face staggering levels of suicide, bullying and other hurdles — is cruel. He conflated sexual orientation and gender identity, which is a pretty big tell that you don’t know anything about.

A reason why the #MeToo movement exists is because women and survivors of sexual misconduct are rarely believed. We just want the same credibility and respect Mario Lopez believes boys deserve when we come forward. Few men have “actually” been held accountable.

Don’t forget that Mario Lopez didn’t have to say anything ~at all~ about these topics. He chose to weigh in on them on the record.
