Meek Mill Receives Social Justice Award at NYU’s McSilver Institute

Meek Mill was honored on Monday, June 10 at the seventh annual McSilver Awards at New York University (NYU). The ceremony acknowledges the “Vanguards for Social Justice who are prominent in their fields and unafraid to use their platforms to help create a more equitable and just world.”

The first billionaire hip hop artist, Jay-Z ,Philadelphia 76ers co-owner Michael Rubin and New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, have helped him raise over $50 million that will be used in their fight to “dramatically reduce the number of people who are needlessly trapped in the system.”

“I’m honored by this recognition,” Meek said in a statement. “When I was released from prison last year, I knew I had a responsibility to use my voice to speak up for the voiceless and fight for criminal justice reform. Change will take time, but me and my team at the REFORM Alliance are committed to making a real difference and fixing a broken justice system.”

Meek was granted a new appellate court hearing with Pennsylvania’s Superior Court. The hearing will take place on July 16th.

A few weeks ago, it was announced that the Philadelphia District Attorney agrees with Meek’s legal team in that Judge Genece Brinkley, who has presided over his case for years, was not being objective with the artist. After it was alleged that she asked for a shoutout in a song by Nicki Minaj and Meek, that became clear to us all. Finally, there is some progress being made because today, it was revealed that Meek was granted a hearing to possibly have his original conviction overturned in front of Superior Court Judges.
