TMZ reported that Meek Mill will be announcing that he’ll be renovating a basketball court at East Fairmount Park in North Philly. The park Meek chose to renovate holds a special place in his heart since it’s in the neighborhood he grew up in.
“North Philly will always be home. When kids go to East Fairmount Park, they deserve to ball in the best conditions possible, so I’m glad they’ll have that opportunity now.” He said.
The rapper teamed up with Puma and Jay-Z Roc Nation to repaint and revamp the court. Puma recently announced that they’ll be re-entering the basketball market so the move to help a local Philly court only makes sense. The rapper is expected to announce his plans to renovate the park in the next few days. This is special moment in the culture to see two black men working together to make a difference in our communities. Jay-Z was recently announced the president of basketball operations. He also is a owner of Roc Nation.
Jay-Z has been there for Meek Mill during his highs and lows. Hov wrote an op-ed in the New York Times about Meek Mill unfairly prison sentence. He has also been speaking up prison reform since the Kalief Browder story. He made a documentary about Kalief Browder which debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival.
The justice system in America is a big problem. You have black men in America who get charged for a crime they didn’t commit. The charges could given them 10+ years in prison unless they accept a plea deal that will get you 6 months in prison and long ass probation. They accept a plea deal because they can’t afford a good lawyer to represent them.
