Just Mercy, a film that will be released in 2020, stars Michael B. Jordan as MacArthur Genius Grant-winning civil rights attorney Bryan Stevenson, who specializes in defending Alabama’s death row prisoners. The Hollywood Reporter reported that the film will be released as part of WarnerMedia’s studio-wide push for inclusivity in its hiring practices. In order to achieve behind the camera diversity, the film’s directors and producers looked for talent beyond the usual professional and social networks through which crew members often find work.

“People usually hire people they know,” the film’s stunt coordinator, Keith Splinter Davis, told THR. “That can be challenging to break through. This is the biggest show I’ve ever been the stunt coordinator on, and I’ve been in the business for 20 years.”

Creed star Michael B. Jordan has been vocal about the importance of diversity in Hollywood, and used an inclusion rider in the television deal he signed with Amazon Studios in February. He also worked on creating WarnerMedia’s equity initiative. “I think it’s just catching up everybody with the times,” he told Variety last year. “This is evolution and the right thing to do.”
