The highly anticipated trailer is here to promise an adrenaline-filled explosion of martial arts action mixed with heart in Karate Kid: Legends, which promises to span the generational divide. Directed by Jonathan Entwistle (The End of the F*ing World), this action-drama presents a bold next step into the beloved universe of characters, both the classic ones and fresh new additions.
The film tells the story of Li Fong, a kung fu genius from Beijing who is relocated after a family tragedy to New York City with his mother. Difficulty with adjustment to a new culture and school life, Li finds himself torn between his nature of pacifism and the challenges posed by bullies and rivalries.
In a moment of crisis, Li turns to his kung fu teacher, Mr. Han, played once again by Jackie Chan, who reprises his role from The Karate Kid (2010). But when Mr. Han realizes Li needs more than kung fu to succeed in a high-stakes karate tournament, he seeks help from Daniel LaRusso, the legendary karate champion portrayed by Ralph Macchio. Together, the two teach Li a brand new revolutionary way of fighting, melding styles and philosophies to prepare him for the ultimate showdown. The trailer includes full-on training montages, impressive fight scenes, and tender, emotional moments as Li fights to get past the emotional baggage that weighs him down and try to find his place in the world. Fans of the original films will be delighted to find Daniel LaRusso back, active not only as a mentor but as a bridge between old and new generations of martial artists.
The cast also features Joshua Jackson (Dawson’s Creek) as a mysterious antagonist, Sadie Stanley (The Goldbergs) as Li’s new friend and ally, and Ming-Na Wen (The Mandalorian) delivering a heartfelt performance as Li’s mother.
Produced by Karen Rosenfelt (Twilight) and executive produced by Ralph Macchio and Jenny Hinkey, Karate Kid: Legends promises to honor the legacy of the original films while bringing fresh energy to the franchise.
Karate Kid: Legends hits theaters nationwide on June 14, 2025. The film is a celebration for old and new fans of resilience, growth, and the enduring power of martial arts.
