Nika Shakarami: 16-Year-Old Was Viciously Tortured and Killed By Iranian Forces

The body of a 16-year-old girl, who went missing during recent protests in Iran, was removed from a morgue and secretly buried in a village on Sunday.

Nika Shakarami’s body was found by her family in the morgue of a detention center in Tehran last week after she went missing for ten days while protesting the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who died while being detained by the deputy Iranian police for not wearing a headscarf on September 16th.

Nika’s body, believed to be showing signs of severe head trauma, was removed from the local morgue before a scheduled burial near her father’s village and burial at Veysian village, according to BBC News.

Iranian state media reported that the death toll in the ongoing protests was 41, with some groups approaching100. The official death toll during the protests is 14. Hundreds of people were arrested.

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres told reporters: “It is absolutely essential to show maximum restraint, maximum restraint, in the face of(protests) around the world, and the same, obviously, applies toIran.”

Iran’s parliament speaker on Sunday warned that the protests could destabilize the country and called on security forces to strictly handle those who he said were endangering public order. add. The protests have entered their third week as anger over the treatment of Iranian women flares up.
