During his daily briefing, Cuomo told reporters on Thursday that he supports the Columbus statue in New York because it represents the “Italian-American contribution” throughout the country.
“The statue has come to represent and signify the Italian American contribution to New York,” Cuomo says on the Christopher Columbus statues being vandalized. Many Italian Americans hopped on Twitter to talk about Governor Cuomo decision not to remove the statue.
Hi. Italian-American New Yorker here. No it doesn't. https://t.co/913pOUlLQf

https://twitter.com/veroconplatanos/status/1271122446687653891?s=21I'm half Italian and I can tell you Christopher Columbus is NOT a source of Pride to me-rather he's a symbol of shame. He enslaved Native people and was vicious in his use of violence against them. NOTHING about Columbus has any connection to my Italian-American heritage. https://t.co/SEPaWnlKYU
