Mayor Greg Fischer has announced that Louisville Metro Police is firing officer Brett Hankison.
Fischer says due to a provision in state law (KRS chapter 67C.326 1F), neither he nor Acting LMPD Chief Robert Schroeder can answer any questions about it. He directed all questions to Jefferson County Attorney Mike O’Connell. The briefing lasted 44 seconds.
In the termination letter, Schroeder says Hankison’s termination is related to a violation of procedures when his “actions displayed an extreme indifference to the value of human life when you wantonly and blindly fired 10 rounds into the apartment of Breonna Taylor.”
Hankison was involved in the fatal shooting of Breonna Taylor and has been accused of multiple sexual assault allegations. Hankison has a long history of being investigating by police, but with little discipline. Most recently, the mayor demanded that Hankison be removed from the Louisville Police Merit Board after several woman came forward claiming he sexually assaulted them. Please see the attached letter served to Detective Hankison this morning. We will have no additional statements on this matter. pic.twitter.com/XzAhEylEfk
