AOC joins Hunts Point Market workers' strike
While most Democrats celebrated President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris inauguration in Washington D.C. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (AOC) spent the night in the Bronx, on a megaphone with striking workers of Hunts Point Market as they protest for a $1/hour raise.
AOC supported the strike on Wednesday and went to Costco to buy some hot chocolate and supplies for the workers.
Negotiations between the market and Teamsters Local 202 broke down last week, and the store refused to accept a $ 1 hourly price increase request, instead offering a 32 cents hourly price increase. Many of the workers earn between $ 18 and $ 21 an hour and voted to go on strike at midnight on Sunday.
AOC shared information about how to contribute moral or financial support to Teamsters Joint Council 16, which represents 120,000 employees in 27 locals, including the striking workers who are members of Local 202.
