Ryan Coogler & Ava DuVernay Are The First Black Directors To Hold The Top Two Spots At The Box Office

Black history has been made again. The culture can officially check this off the list. A Wrinkle In Time and Black Panther hold the top two spots at the box office. It’s an amazing accomplishment and it’s great for culture. The culture keeps ascending everyday we just have to keep supporting each other. Black Panther was the top spot again earning over 41 million. It’s the fourth week in a row Black Panther has been at number one. A Wrinkle In Time came in at the two spot earning over 33 million this weekend. Black Panther also debuted in China earning over 67 million dollars in China. Black Panther has surpassed the billion dollar mark worldwide. Also Ava Duvernay is the first black woman ever to direct a 100 million dollar movie. According to comScore/Screen Engine, Wrinkle in Time‘s audience was 17 percent African-American, compared to 37 percent for Black Panther on opening weekend. Caucasians made up the largest share of Wrinkle‘s audience (56 percent), followed by Hispanics (20 percent), Asians (5 percent) and Native American/other (3 percent).

Nearly 60 percent of ticket buyers were female, while 57 percent of them were under the age of 25.

Overseas, Wrinkle in Time rolled out in six major markets, grossing $6.3 million for a global bow of $39.6 million.

This was another great weekend for the culture and many more to go in 2018. #BlackRenaissance
