On January 14, Serena Williams returned to the tennis court for the Australian Open. While naturally many fans were excited to see one of the greatest athletes to have ever lived play again (and win 6-0 6-2!), there were a lot of people talking about her incredible new nike outfit and for good reason.

During the French Open in August 2018, Serena wore a customized black catsuit. While it was made specifically to help her fight off blood clots after giving birth to her daughter, the officials said it was in violation of the dress code and a “disrespect” of the game. Despite the fact that Serena shrugged off the call, she recognized how “powerful” she looked in the suit and understood why fans were so upset.

For her latest appearances on the court, however, Serena seems to have found a clever way around the ban: a romper. For the matches, she wore a bright green one-piece suit that included shorts instead of pants and a tank-top sleeve. On Twitter, one person joked that her way to get around the rules on catsuits was to “just cut the legs off.”

Throughout the course of Serena’s career, her body and fashion have been constantly scrutinized by the public and the sporting elite. She has one of the best styles in the history of tennis. No one will ever forget her wearing a purple tutu on the court to push back against unfair criticism that’s thrown her way.

Serena is often hated because she is black woman that is dominating and the face of a predominantly white sport. Tennis has also try to break and restricted Serena. Just to try to knock her off her throne. Serena is one grand slam away from tying Margaret Court for most grand slams of all time by a woman.
