Tatiana Maslany is urging fans to boycott “Scream 7,” jumping right into the drama surrounding the latest installment in the horror film franchise.
The “She Hulk” actress posted the very simple message “Boycott Scream 7” in an Instagram story. This comes after Melissa Barrera was fired from the film in November 2023 after she posted messages in support of Palestine during the Israel-Hamas war. Spyglass Media Group claimed that Barrera’s messages were crossing over into antisemitic rhetoric. There has been much debate online about this situation.

Barrera starred as Sam Carpenter in the two most recent “Scream” films, in both 2022 and 2023. She has been one of the key cast members in the film franchise’s revival era. However, after she was fired, Jenna Ortega and the film’s director, Christopher Landon, also left the film. Landon called the film “a dream job that turned into a nightmare,” though he did not specify what led him to leave.
There were reports that the film needed to be rewritten after Barrera’s departure. This is said to have cost the film $500,000. There were also changes in the film’s direction as the producers sought to move forward with the franchise without Barrera’s and Ortega’s characters.
In the midst of the drama surrounding “Scream 7,” veteran actress Neve Campbell is set to rejoin the film as the character Sidney Prescott after she did not reappear in the 2023 film “Scream VI” over pay. Campbell is said to have negotiated a $7 million deal to reappear in the film.
Courteney Cox is also set to reappear in the film as she has in every “Scream” film since the original in 1996. She is said to have negotiated a deal worth $2 million.
And to top it off.
‘SCREAM 7’ has the lowest-rated film in the “Scream” franchise, with a 48% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
