Simone Biles, the 27-year-old gymnastics powerhouse, secured her ninth all-around national title at the U.S. gymnastics championships on Sunday, underscoring her dominance and cementing her status as one of the sport’s greatest athletes.
Biles, a four-time Olympic gold medalist, delivered a stunning performance that earned her the largest margin of victory at the event since 2018. She scored an impressive 119.750 points, significantly ahead of Skye Blakely, who placed second with 113.850 points, and Kayla DiCello, who finished third with 110.800 points, NBC Sports reported.
Her victory in Fort Worth was marked by gold medals across all four apparatuses: vault, uneven bars, floor exercise, and balance beam. This clean sweep highlights her remarkable versatility and skill as she continues her journey toward a potential third Olympic appearance.
Biles’s performance not only set her apart from her competitors but also marked a historic milestone. Last year, she claimed her eighth U.S. gymnastics title, breaking the long-standing record held by Alfred Jochim since 1933.
Additionally, in October 2023, Biles became the world’s most decorated gymnast after winning her 21st world championship gold medal at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, surpassing the record previously held by Belarusian gymnast Vitaly Scherbo.
The Olympic trials, scheduled to be held later this month in Minneapolis, will be the next crucial step for Biles as she aims to secure her spot in the upcoming Olympic Games. Her dominant performance at the national championships positions her as a favorite to lead the U.S. gymnastics team once again.
Notably, Tokyo Olympic all-around champion Suni Lee showed resilience in Fort Worth, recovering from a fall during the vault competition to finish fourth overall.
