The Origin Story
When asked about the inspiration behind the podcast, Tatyana revealed it all started during a trip to Essence Fest, where the duo bonded over their shared love for pop culture. But it wasn’t until an early screening of Wicked that Tatyana popped the question to Simone.
“We were all yapping outside of the theater about how much we loved the film, and I pulled Simone to the side and asked her,” Tatyana recounted. “She immediately said yes, and I was so surprised.”
“It felt long overdue,” Simone added. “We’ve both been immersed in pop culture for so long, and a podcast seemed like the perfect fit.”
What Makes It Unique?
In an industry largely dominated by white voices, Simone and Tatyana are unapologetic about bringing their perspectives as Black women to the table.
“We’re two Black women who genuinely love and engage with every aspect of pop culture,” said Tatyana. “Our goal is to bridge entertainment and culture by highlighting not just what’s trending, but why it matters.”
Simone echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that pop culture often gets dismissed as trivial despite its profound impact on society. “We want to shift that perception and show how these trends and moments influence everything from politics to personal identities.”
Behind the Scenes
Creating each episode is no small feat. The duo meticulously tracks trending topics and balances lighthearted fun with thought-provoking insights.
“We keep tabs on social media, entertainment news outlets, and our industry connections,” Simone explained. “It’s about prioritizing moments that resonate culturally or spark conversations.”
Tatyana added, “We also bring our individual strengths to the table. Simone is all about BookTok tea, while I’m more of a TV and film girl—I watched 100 films last year!”
This balance is evident in their episodes, which effortlessly blend humor and depth, making the podcast a must-listen for anyone invested in pop culture.
Tackling Serious Topics

“Cases like the Diddy situation shed light on the darker side of Hollywood,” Tatyana said. “We want to have real, honest conversations about these issues while still providing a sense of escapism for our listeners.”
Simone added, “It’s all about balance. We aim to be entertaining and insightful, grounding our commentary in context and bigger-picture awareness.”
Navigating Disagreements
Like any good duo, Simone and Tatyana don’t always see eye-to-eye, but they view disagreements as a strength.
“We disagreed on our very first episode,” Simone said with a laugh.
“And that’s expected,” Tatyana chimed in. “It makes for an interesting show. We’re both great listeners and respect each other’s perspectives. If things ever get heated, we won’t edit it out—that’s part of the authenticity.”
Looking Ahead

“I’m claiming that we’ll go on tour someday and connect with our listeners in real life,” Tatyana said. “I’ll fall to my knees in Target the day that happens.”
Simone added, “We want to challenge our listeners to think critically about their opinions on pop culture. It’s about providing context and encouraging meaningful dialogue.”
