Indiana Fever forward and queen of podcasts, Sophie Cunningham, is manifesting major league action on the floor, off the floor, and perhaps on the sand as well! In the latest installment of the popular podcast Show Me Something, the Mizzou legend dished to cohost West Wilson about her hopes for her upcoming WNBA contract.
“I want that next contract so I can buy a house!” Sophie revealed her hopes for her next contract offer. “I just want to feel homey and cozy but I’m not decorating anything again until I’ve got a three-year contract in front of me.”
Indeed, it appears the WNBA star may be looking at options such as the New York Liberty or perhaps the Minnesota Lynx!
Cunningham certainly has the right to dream big. With her television cameos, her sponsorship deals, and her sense of humor, the pint-sized star is quickly becoming one of the most marketable faces in the WNBA. Currently, her motto? “Play hard, build wealth, and never stop being Sophie.”
From Good Morning America to Arby’s Test Kitchen
The Fever star started her chaotic week promoting Arby’s at Good Morning America in NYC. ‘I was eating steak bites at 7 a.m.,’ she laughed. ‘There’s never a wrong time for a steak bite.’
Her ‘Hot Girls Eat Arby’s’ t-shirt went viral, and the faster-than-fast-food-chain’s steak nuggets flew off the shelves nationwide. Arby’s executives themselves asked the ‘Hot Girls’ star to sample new dishes at their development kitchen in Georgia. ‘They said they are launching a ‘Deep-Fried Turkey Sandwich’ called ‘The Gobbler’ for Thanksgiving, and I’m in.’
Robin Roberts and Ginger Zee apparently agreed. Cunningham left the GMA with a fan in every corner of the studio. “They’re angels who wake up at 4:30 a.m. every day,” she said.
Team No Sleep: The whirlwind lives of Cunningham and West Wilson
However, while the bread was being buttered on the conquests of breakfast television by the incomparable Sophie, her co-host West Wilson was having the wildest day in the land of press and publicity, fueled entirely on caffeine right up to the point where he actually found the time to perform a Live broadcast alongside the Chicks in the Office!
“I’ve slept eight minutes in a week,” Wilson joked, and then Sophie added, “I’ve maybe slept ten. We’re wall street-it around this baby.”
Both said their lives currently run on adrenaline and Arby’s proteins.
Marathon Goals: Sophie’s Next Challenge is 26.2 Miles in Paradise
After the tough season, the travels, and the physical demands, Sophie’s sights are fixed on something truly ‘wild’: the marathon held in Hawaii in December next year. ‘‘I always thought you had to be mental to run marathons,’’ she confessed. ‘‘But Hawaii’s a happy place for me. I’ll walk if I have to. Look at the ocean view, the mountains there,’’ she said, grinning in anticipation.
She’s also enlisting the help of her sister Lindsay to join her. ‘I’m definitely not training for six months,’ said Sophie. ‘My season’s over, I’ll be in shape, and maybe I’ll run about 13 miles. Then the rest will be walked.’
WNBA CBA Talks – SOPHIE GETS REAL ABOUT BUSINESS
However, Cunningham also shed light on the collective bargaining agreement process the WNBA has been having, relating an important point which many WNBA supporters may have not known about. “I thought if we hadn’t reached a deal by the 31st of October, it’d be a lockout,” she said. ‘But it’s not the case. So long as both sides are still negotiating, play goes on.’
She liked the process, finding it ‘fascinating’ to watch the ‘business side of women’s basketball develop’. ‘You don’t know, you don’t know,’ she said. ‘But now I’m learning and I actually love it.’
