Steven Maeda, executive producer of the highly anticipated Netflix live-action series One Piece, is graciously sharing insights into the process of adapting the manga into the highly anticipated Netflix live-action series.
The brand-new adaptation debuted on the streaming service today (August 31), and all eight episodes are now available for viewing.
In a recent interview, Steven recently shared his experience working with Eiichiro Oda to bring his manga to life and implement various changes.
“It was more like coming up with ideas and then presenting them to him, and so, you know, he had oversight and definite input on everything,” Steven told The Wayne Ayers Podcast of Eiichiro Oda, who is also an executive producer on the series. “And it wasn’t so much saying, ‘Hey, Oda San, how do we do this?’ as saying, ‘You know what could be really cool, is if we tried this, or introduced this character earlier, or brought, you know, Garp in the marine pursuit in from the beginning? Hey, how might that work?’ And then let’s run it by him and see what he says.” “There were very passionate discussions about, and a lot of agreements, and a lot of disagreements about how things should go,” he added.
