Teenager Cori Gauff set to face her idol Venus Williams in the opening round

The 15-year-old is the youngest player to qualify for the main Wimbledon draw since 1968 and she is facing five-time Wimbledon champion Venus Williams, 39, in the opening round.

Before becoming the youngest Wimbledon qualifier in the Open era aged 15, some of Coco Gauff’s teachers didn’t even know she played tennis.

Serena Williams coach Patrick Mouratoglou who has trained Coco Gauff at his academy, says she has enormous potential.

Roger Federer management company Team 8 handles the youngster’s affairs. Federer believes it’s one of the most exciting matches and storyline this go around in Wimbledon.

“Everyone was waiting to see what the draw was like. I think that’s fascinating, that she plays Venus. I think it’s a great storyline. It will be a great, wonderful experience for Coco and Venus.

Serena Williams also chimed in on the generational clash.

“She’s an exciting young player, and she’s so cool,” said Serena. “She’s a great girl. It’s a great moment for her and for Venus.”

If Coco loses or wins it wouldn’t matter because she already made history.
