Two reimagined seasons of the show, a 50-minute special and all of the original episodes of The Boondocks are coming to HBO’s new streaming service, HBO Max.
“The family has recently moved to an idyllic community in suburban Maryland only to see it taken over by the tyrannical Uncle Ruckus and his bizarre neo-fascist regime. Life under Ruckus turns out to be an everyday struggle to survive.”
On the animation side, the press release also says that Seung-Eun Kim is back as well, which is very promising as he was Supervising Director on the old show. I’m really curious how Boondocks will handle a current reality that’s more ridiculous than any satire they wrote in 2004.
“There’s a unique opportunity to revisit the world of The Boondocks & do it over again for today. It’s crazy how different the times we live in are now – both politically & culturally – more than a decade past the original series & two decades past the original newspaper comic.”
More Boondocks is great, but it’s a shame it’s being tucked away in a streaming service, instead of being available to the general public on Adult Swim like the original series.
