“The Entire Pacific Palisades Looks Like Gaza,” Jamie Lee Curtis on Devastating LA Fires

During a recent Q&A session for her upcoming film, The Last Showgirl, acclaimed actress Jamie Lee Curtis made headlines with her stark comparison of the ongoing Los Angeles wildfires to war-torn regions.

The event was packed as Curtis spoke about the devastation of the fires in the area of Pacific Palisades, where hundreds of families have been displaced and vast swaths of land have been destroyed.

When asked about her thoughts on the fires, Curtis remarked, “The entire Pacific Palisades looks like, you know, unfortunately Gaza or one of these war-torn countries where awful things have happened.”

The comment instantly went viral with many coming out in praise, others criticized her. Some understood from the audience that she was passionately appealing to take immediate action regarding climate change and the extent of devastation the fires cause. Others considered this comparison insensitive, considering the conflict and humanitarian crisis at various places, like Gaza.

In October 2023, Curtis faced backlash after sharing a photo on social media intended to express support for Israel. The image, however, depicted Palestinian children fleeing from bombs, leading to criticism for the misrepresentation. Curtis deleted the post and issued an apology, acknowledging the mistake and clarifying her intentions. 

Despite the earlier controversy, Curtis has continued to express her support for Israel. She was among over 700 celebrities who signed an open letter condemning Hamas and expressing solidarity with Israel.
