‘The Little Mermaid’ Earns Over $10 Million At Thursday Box Office

The live-action remake of The Little Mermaid reportedly earned $10 million or more in its Thursday previews, and Deadline reports that she’s on her way to a big Memorial Day weekend.

This surpasses Aladdin from 2019, which earned $7 million en route to a massive $116.8 million 4-day weekend.

To break the Memorial Day weekend record set by “Top Gun: Maverick” last year, “The Little Mermaid” would have to gross more than $162 million.

Many film critics predicted that The Little Mermaid would gross around $110 million over the weekend, which appears to be correct. The film received mixed reviews from critics but has received rave reviews from audiences thus far.

Given that The Little Mermaid is a family movie and that children are off from school for the weekend before summer vacations begin in June, it will be interesting to see how the Friday matinees perform today.

Fast X’s move to second place this weekend is probably going to result in a significant decline, as Box Office Pro predicts a 62% drop.

The Machine, About My Father, and Kandahar, an action movie starring Gerard Butler that is actually quite good, are among the other recent releases that are anticipated to debut in the low single digits at the box office, where non-blockbusters are still having trouble after the pandemic.
