Action auteur John Woo, revered for films like “Face/Off” and “Hard Boiled,” returns with a radical reimagining of his own 1989 Hong Kong classic, “The Killer.” This new iteration, set against the backdrop of Paris, promises a thrilling blend of Woo’s signature operatic action and contemporary storytelling.
The recently released trailer showcases Nathalie Emmanuel (“The Fast Saga,” “Game of Thrones”) as Zee, a notorious assassin known as the “Queen of the Dead.” When Zee defies her shadowy handler (Sam Worthington) and refuses a hit on a young woman, her world explodes. Alliances crumble, a tenacious detective (Omar Sy) sets his sights on her, and Zee is plunged into a web of criminal conspiracy that forces her to confront her past.
The film boasts a stellar international cast, including acclaimed French actors Eric Cantona, Saïd Taghmaoui, and Tchéky Karyo. Woo is joined by a powerhouse production team, featuring Oscar-winning screenwriter Brian Helgeland (“L.A.Confidential”) and the writing duo behind “10 Cloverfield Lane.”
Adapted from Woo’s 1989 film, “The Killer” marks the director’s reunion with the genre that cemented his legendary status. The film is produced by Academy Award winner Charles Roven (“Oppenheimer,” “American Hustle”) and is slated to premiere exclusively on Peacock on August 23rd.

I’m very torn about this,The Killer is maybe my favorite John Woo film but this leaves me perplexed and I fear that neither of these two actors has the charisma to match the originals, but if Woo himself decided to touch his creature i can’t object. Action scenes looks good tbf.
The good thing about remakes is you always have the Original to go back to. I’ll be watching that instead of wasting time watching this.
Wait is that Missandei, Lupin and Eric Cantona?!
It does look better than I expected especially after Silent Night which was sadly a big letdown for me. It won’t live up to the original but looks fun. Happy to fully see Woo back in the Heroic Bloodshed subgenre.
I got dizzy just watching her. BTW, I’m glad they got the best “Ahnald” line of all time in there.
The original 1989 movie The Killer is a classic and one of the best action movies of the 80s. They should make their own original movies instead of continuing to remake the classics. It seems Hollywood doesn’t have any new ideas for movies anymore. Really hope this one is good.
(Deep sigh) I wish John Woo would have just called this something else. With this film, can we put a pin in the whole badass check extreme suspension of disbelief genre? Who is this for actually? Hy head is starting to hurt…
All action movies require extreme suspension of belief. I will be watching this for sure as will most who like the genre.
Atomic Blonde is the last great film from this genre. I’m trading Chow Yun Fat for this? If this makes me a monster, then I guess I’m a monster.
That’s not saying much….most of these type of films aren’t great no matter if a male or female stars in them.
True but we are talking John Woo here. I know he hasn’t put out a classic in a while but….i was hoping to get one more Chow Yun Fat HK based film somehow. A man can dream.
Recycling at its best ♻💯
Can we get this to be a thing? Directors going back in the lab to remake their original hits and movies? Especially with the technology advancements out.
Was not ready for that Sam Worthington accent.
I’m not going into this expecting something as strong as the original, that’s just not a fair assumption. From what this trailer has shown, it has the potential to be a simply solid Woo flick. Even with current studio limitations, he still orchestrates action like no other.
The only super unfortunate aspect about it is they didn’t give him enough money to use actual cinematic cameras because this does look like it was shot for TV.
This doesn’t feel good… Like it feels… Uninspired and boring… I could be wrong. I may check it out on Peacock when it comes out.
The only director who can remake his own movie and make it twice as awesome
No way. The original The Killer is probably the greatest thing JW has ever done. This remake doesn’t look bad, but “twice as awesome”?? – I don’t know about that.
I really don’t know what to say… Even, if Woo is remaking his own film, this doesn’t feel good. It just looks like another Hollywood film.
You know I was feeling the same way on this, it feels off.
And the remake is a remake of a remake 😂😂
The Killer was heavily inspired by Le Samourai, but wasn’t a remake, the story is totally different even if had some similar elements.
The Killer was a remake of all his Hong Kong films rolled into one for the US market
