York Middle School Teacher Mary Katherine Long Arrested For Slapping A Student

A South Carolina teacher got fired and arrested after allegedly slapping a 13-year-old student at school last week.

The York Middle School teacher got identified as Mary Katherine Long, according to the York Police Department. She turned herself into the police earlier today and got released on bond shortly after turning herself into the police. Long faces a charge of 3rd-degree assault and battery.

According to a police report, the incident occurred last Thursday at school. The middle school student told police that Long slapped them on the right side of their face and said, “How would you like it if someone slapped you?”

Apparently, the kid was slap-boxing playfully with a friend, and Long asked them to stop. When they didn’t listen to Long’s demands, she reportedly took manners into her own hands.

Another student at York Middle School reportedly saw Long slap the student.

York School District initially placed Mary Katherine Long on administrative leave but told Channel 9 that Long no longer works for the school district as of Friday.
