Mystic Marley, the singer and songwriter, has a brand-new single named “In Love.” The song blends her Jamaican roots with R&B, pop, and hip-hop to explore the complexities of romantic relationships.
Released on Friday, the song captures the emotions of being in love, which Mystic expresses through vulnerability and passion in her writing.
Mystic Marley is the daughter of Stephen Marley, who is a nine-time Grammy winner, and the granddaughter of reggae legend Bob Marley. In “In Love,” Mystic shares the experiences, joys, pains, and feelings of being connected to another person.
“I’ve chosen to put out ‘In Love’ now because it’s a song that I am genuinely passionate about,” Mystic said. “I felt connected to it and just fell in love with it when it was completed, and the process was a vibe, as always.”
The song explores the difficulties and nuances of relationships, including being attracted to someone even when things get difficult.
Mystic shows vulnerability in her songs and self-expression. Although she has deep reggae and dancehall roots, she blends her sound with R&B, pop, and hip-hop, which helps her to evolve as an artist.
“I’ve been working on my sound and experimenting with different vibes and creating with different people, including Yo Christon as producer and my co-writer, Ayaana Nash, so I think it’s a good place to pick up,” Mystic says.
Mystic Marley grew up in Miami and Los Angeles, surrounded by music. She toured with her father and spent time in the studio while he worked there. These experiences shaped her attitude toward music and pushed her to try herself.
“I would enjoy it if people were open to things not always looking and being the same,” she said. “I’m a very open person. I like to learn and I like to grow, and I do that through experience, through trial and through error.”
Recently, Mystic recorded a soulful cover of her grandfather’s “Misty Morning” for the Grammy-winning compilation inspired by the film “Bob Marley: One Love.” Her father served as the album’s executive producer. She has toured with him and performed at Kaya Fest.
With “In Love,” Mystic invites listeners to see a more personal side of her art and share her vulnerabilities.
“I hope everyone enjoys the music and everyone streams,” Mystic says. “Big up yourselves.”
“In Love” is available on all major streaming platforms as of Friday, October 30th.
